Hello Everyone,
The question has come up again this year about players having to share their own bat with the team. Many
of the new expensive bats have a life span. This means that these bats will eventually break due to their fragile
construction.
There are several things to consider on this issue: Are the players treating other players bats with care? How long will the bat last if the whole team uses it? How will the team feel about not being able to use the bat? How will I as a parent feel if the bat breaks while my child is using it? Are we fostering teamwork by having a bat that no one else can use? These are just questions. I don't know if there is one right answer on the topic. My job is to make sure that these issues do not impact the team negatively.
Our policy for our team on this issue will be: If you have a bat that you do not want the whole team to use, We will support that. This means that the bat can only be used by the owner. You cannot pick and choose to allow your friends or certain kids to use it. If we start to pick who can and cannot use a bat, it will only cause hard feelings and resentment, which is not good for the team or it's chemistry. If you chose to let the whole team use the bat that is ok too. We will do our best to make sure that the players are treating all of the bats correctly.
